Inside the world of Google censors
By Michelle Malkin • November 29, 2008 11:05 PM

"Several weeks ago, I spoke with GWU law professor Jeffrey Rosen about my curious experiences with YouTube’s mystery censors. Longtime readers will remember the battle over “First, They Came.” For the past two years, my attempts to re-upload the little video about the Mohammed Cartoons and violent jihad were blocked. Other users were able to upload it, but it was blocked from my personal channel. Lo and behold, after Rosen inquired about it, the video is now available again."

Not that a little censorship is the issue. Censorship being one sided is an issue. Is Google susceptible to bullying or is something else afoot? BHT wonders if this will be an opportunity for something non-Googly to come along and succeed. We suspect communication will become increasingly difficult as time goes on ... how very conspiratorial. Who will be or is behind this? Same as usual ... and he is not wearing long red underwear as so often pictured.

Thanksgiving: A violation of church and state?

Thanksgiving: A violation of church and state?: "But I'm an optimist. And, since so much attention is being given right now by the media and the president-elect himself regarding his parallels to and lessons learned from President Abraham Lincoln, I recommend Obama heed Lincoln's Thanksgiving wisdom. Don't mince or milk down the God of the pilgrims, as is being done in public schools across this land with the retelling of that first Thanksgiving. Boldly proclaim, as Lincoln and nearly every other president, thanks to our Creator for His providential care (even through tough economic winters).

Obama doesn't even need a speech writer for Thanksgiving 2009. He can simply recite Lincoln's Thanksgiving Day Proclamation, in which he thanks the Almighty for America's bountiful blessings (despite enduring a time of war and grave economic hardships). The content seems divinely timed for even such a wintery season as ours:"

BHT thanks Chuck Norris for kicking some turkey butt.

Is Jesus the Only Way?

Why is it so hard to say it? Will proclaiming Jesus as "the only way" become increasingly more difficult?

How hard will it be for our children, should the Lord delay His coming? Increasing pressure to water down the Gospel seems evident. The intensity of opposition to the Gospel of Jesus Christ is rising across the earth. This pressure is effectively confusing the message in many quadrants. But the battle is an old one. Maybe there is nothing new under the sun, just more of the same.

And there shall be signs in the sun, and in the moon, and in the stars

Luke 21:25 And there shall be signs in the sun, and in the moon, and in the stars; and upon the earth distress of nations, with perplexity; the sea and the waves roaring;

Who knows what these signs will be. Some think there may be an ancient message in the astrological story in the Hebrew Mazzaroth mentioned in Job 38:32. Smith's Bible Dictionary defines Mazzaroth as the name of the twelve signs of the Zodiac. The Hebrew version had a different message than Astrology today. Bible scholars believe the Mazzaroth was corrupted by Nimrod and followers during the Tower of Babel days. Watchman Bible Study has a fair explanation. Here is an audio presentation by Chuck Missler.

What is happening today? Here is a website tracking astrologically significant events. Nov. 30/Dec 1 has a moon/Jupiter/Venus conjunction happening. If you are too couch potato to go outside and look, a virtual solution exists. Stellarium is a wonderful program to view the night sky while warming your hands over the keyboard. Move you cursor to the left side of the screen to access setting of location.

Luke 21:31 So likewise ye, when ye see these things come to pass, know ye that the kingdom of God is nigh at hand.

Luke 21:28 And when these things begin to come to pass, then look up, and lift up your heads; for your redemption draweth nigh.

Are these some of the things we will see happening? Maybe there is a literal interpretation to "looking up."

Earthquakes Revisited

Previously BHT looked at the end time earthquake subject and found it a little shaky. Let's look again at what the Bible says.

(Mat 24:7) For nation will rise up in arms against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. There will be famines and earthquakes in various places.
(Mar 13:8) For nation will rise up in arms against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. There will be earthquakes and famines in various places. These things are only the beginning of the birth pains."
(Luk 21:11) There will be great earthquakes and famines and plagues in various places, and there will be fearful events and awful signs from heaven.

Are earthquakes going to be more frequent, more severe, or both. For sure they seem to be significant to end time prophecy. Mindful of the old phrase "lies, damned lies and statistics" I found a new peek at the earthquake subject at the Unsealed Prophecy website.

Here is a screen shot of his data: (head over to Unsealed Prophecy and check it out)

Here is supporting data from Stan Deyo: Bigger Earthquakes Increasing

Then there is this "Earthquake Swarms":

Check for current date yourself.

Now that seems BigHuge to me.

Don't get your underwear in a bundle. (Or maybe you should) He still doesn't set a date for the "rapture." And if he is wrong on timing, he may have other insights of relevance. There is value in considering all the possible scenarios in eschatology to separate the wheat from the chaff in our own thinking and understanding. People who lock into a singular view will most likely not understand what is happening as the end time picture develops. Can there be a clearer example of locked vision than the Jews who were so convinced about the coming Messiah that they didn't know Him when He stood in front of them?

So ye in like manner, when ye shall see these things come to pass, know that it is nigh, even at the doors.

So likewise ye, when ye see these things come to pass, know ye that the kingdom of God is nigh at hand.

And when these things begin to come to pass, then look up, and lift up your heads; for your redemption draweth nigh.

How can we see if we do not look? Does "look up" mean gaze into the sky? Please!

Israel to get more land, not less

Article Link
Isralestine Book Link

BHT believes Bible prophesy. But BHT does not always know what those prophecies are really saying. For instance I have always wondered why Russia/all-the-rest would attack poor little Israel in the Ezekiel 38 war. (sorry but a potash supply just doesn't do it for me) What's in it for the big bear? Yes, of course, if God said it then it's going to happen. But prophetic events have logic of the time characteristics attached when those events take place.

Mr Salus' theory of Psalms 83 being prophetic would answer that question. It also answers when Damascus will be destroyed (which has never happened). Imagine a bigger, more powerful, oil rich Israel via the Psalms 83 war. It does have a wonderful consistency to it. Each time Israel undergoes invasion it gets larger despite its pathetic leadership.

Now that is something for the bear to sink it's teeth into.

Has it ever troubled you that Israel has never, ever occupied all the land God promised? I must say something inside me is jumping about all this. Need I point out this would be a BigHugeThing?

Here is more detail from Mr. Salis' website:

Be Good Without God

Godlessness flourishes in Europe. Bold humanism now openly advertises in the USA. Billboards stating "Be Good Without God" compete with "Jesus Is The Reason For The Season."

Little fear of God exists, even within the Church. God is all about making humanity happy, giving humanity what it wants, keeping humanity healthy. Is this a Biblical message? Sorry folks ... you need to do a little reading.

Our purpose in life is to bring glory to God. He is our creator. He gets to decide the rules, procedures and outcomes. Complain all you want about the "unfairness" as you see it. We either fit into His plan or it's curtains and we are toast.

What about all this love stuff. If we are attempting to submit to God, (not just any god will do) then He is immeasurably patient, understanding and supportive. We can not, could not and would not make it on our own. God gave the ultimate sacrifice to provide a way for man to be reconciled unto a Holy God. That is the love stuff. Reject His love at your own peril.

A good outline on "fear of the Lord."
Caveat: The author suggests avoiding the extremes of love - fear. BHT suggests embracing the extremes to the extreme. Just don't grab one to the exclusion of the other.

Tony Campolo: On Being “Born Again” by Centering Prayer

Full Article Link:

Now, it is certainly true that not all conversions are experienced by coming to Christ at an evangelistic crusade. However, it’s important to carefully consider how Campolo describes his personal conversion experience, especially in light of the Scriptures. Later in the same chapter, he wrote:

In my case intimacy with Christ had developed gradually over the years, primarily through what Catholics call “centering prayer.” Each morning, as soon as I wake up, I take time—sometimes as much as a half hour—to center myself on Jesus. I say his name over and over again to drive back the 101 things that begin to clutter my mind the minute I open my eyes. Jesus is my mantra, as some would say.[9]

I have searched the Scriptures! You can do the same. Centering prayer and using the name of Jesus as a “mantra” is just not there. In fact the idea of using a mantra (that is mindlessly repeating a word over and over again) is used by the Buddhists and the Hindus in their attempts to focus on the spiritual realm and contact higher beings that the Bible calls demons.

BHT finds Tony very creepy in a squishy-wishy way. What's with these people wanting to improve on Biblical interpretations and concepts. They somehow have become so much smarter than all the preceding Godly saints. This same thinking wants always to "improve" the US Constitution.

Liberalizing Christianity is nothing new. It presents itself as today's Church - the Emerging Church. It just seems more significant in light of present day events. It's so End Time, Yo.

Woe to you when all men speak well of you, for so did their fathers to the false prophets. (Luke 6:26)

America has fallen, never to rise again to its former glory and strength. It is as what happened to the glory and splendor of Rome. I have wept about this, and reading now some of the Christian commentators trying to put the typical 'let's not lose hope' seal upon what has happened, I believe this will only speed up this degradation of America's society.

As a European, I years ago saw this same process happen to most of the Continent - today a pagan, self-centered, de-Christianized and heavily Muslimized continent that has hardly any moral or military strength left. As was the case when Hitler's Nazi hordes overran Europe in 1939, so now it lies nearly totally defenseless against the aggressive designs of both Putin's revived "Soviet" Russia or the deep and dangerous Jihadic infiltration of ISLAM.

Is this true? BHT sees this as a strange time to say the least.

Revelation 11:7-12 (King James Version)
King James Version (KJV)

7And when they shall have finished their testimony, the beast that ascendeth out of the bottomless pit shall make war against them, and shall overcome them, and kill them.

8And their dead bodies shall lie in the street of the great city, which spiritually is called Sodom and Egypt, where also our Lord was crucified.

9And they of the people and kindreds and tongues and nations shall see their dead bodies three days and an half, and shall not suffer their dead bodies to be put in graves.

10And they that dwell upon the earth shall rejoice over them, and make merry, and shall send gifts one to another; because these two prophets tormented them that dwelt on the earth.

11And after three days and an half the spirit of life from God entered into them, and they stood upon their feet; and great fear fell upon them which saw them.

12And they heard a great voice from heaven saying unto them, Come up hither. And they ascended up to heaven in a cloud; and their enemies beheld them.

Temple Mount Faithful

Some Christians believe God has no interest in Israel. They believe the church is a new Israel and original Israel is not important to God. How anyone can read the Bible and get this interpretation is beyond belief! The grafted in branchs of the olive tree are calling the main tree of no importance. Sounds BigHugely arrogant to me.

Where Do We Go From Here

A good place to start.

1 Peter 2 (New International Version)
13Submit yourselves for the Lord's sake to every authority instituted among men: whether to the king, as the supreme authority, 14or to governors, who are sent by him to punish those who do wrong and to commend those who do right. 15For it is God's will that by doing good you should silence the ignorant talk of foolish men. 16Live as free men, but do not use your freedom as a cover-up for evil; live as servants of God. 17Show proper respect to everyone: Love the brotherhood of believers, fear God, honor the king.

18Slaves, submit yourselves to your masters with all respect, not only to those who are good and considerate, but also to those who are harsh. 19For it is commendable if a man bears up under the pain of unjust suffering because he is conscious of God. 20But how is it to your credit if you receive a beating for doing wrong and endure it? But if you suffer for doing good and you endure it, this is commendable before God. 21To this you were called, because Christ suffered for you, leaving you an example, that you should follow in his steps.

Does this mean we can not criticize or oppose the government in legitimate ways? Do we citizens of democracy have an obligation to encourage right and oppose wrong as we interpret right and wrong? A good case can be made. But think of the effect a Holy people would have by living more Biblically Christian lives. How would this change the movies, products, services and institutions offered. Not all opposition is storming the walls of the castle. And yes sometimes furnaces and lion's dens are involved, too.

This is how some are feeling at the Dutch Sheets Blog.

Election Day

Well here we are, the final day. What will happen? RealClearPolitics' national averages were predictive of what happened in the last two presidential elections if my recall is correct. It showed a dead heat with Bush slight strength at the end. Unless polling has changed since then this will be the result.

Conservatives have their underwear in a bundle. Christian conservatives are on the verge of burning their underwear. I understand the feeling. Change can be unsettling and disconcerting. Mr. Obama's apparently extreme left leanings will likely bring change conservatives not only find unsettling and disconcerting but alarming.

During times of national distress, change can come quickly and drastically. Change makers can rally unusual support by appealing to people's fears. People are more willing to listen because of their fear. Change makers can sneak change through the back door while attentions are focused on more pressing issues. This can be the situation currently. The setup is perfect. Socialism's two most effective runs under Presidents Roosevelt and Johnson were models of perfection. We may have another perfect storm.

Christians may wish to take a more Biblical position. Instead of plotting the overthrow of Rome, rendering unto Caesar what is Caesar's could be the way to go. This will be ever so difficult for those who view the USA as some divine representative, different from every other world government. Was this really the way we should have been viewing the USA? Maybe not.

Many Christians sense the end of all things approaching rapidly. Why then do they mourn and grieve at supporting and obvious evidence? We all hate inconvenience, discomfort and suffering ... that's why. But we can be encouraged at the same time. These are exciting times to be alive.

So what do we do on a practical basis?
1. Get our relationship with God on a sound footing through Jesus Christ.
2. Use the coming economic recovery (I think there will be one) to get out of debt.
(maybe the last chance) (can you say Larry Burkett?)
3. Simplify your life and reduce your financial obligations.
4. Now use your extra time to focus on God's plan
(some say for your life but it's not about you, it's about Christ)
5. Enjoy your new found peace in Christ!

Financially I am counting on a recovery during a Cumbia period while we head into socialism. The Euphorians will be at rest and feeling confident. This will give us time to clean up our personal finances hopefully. If I'm wrong it's too late anyway.

The Brotherhood of Darkness

The audience seems to miss the point. Notice during the Q&A how the audience' preconceptions and agendas keep them from understanding. We are all looking for some group, man, organization to blame for all out troubles. We are all looking for some human logic. The culprit was identified by Jesus, Paul and trough out the Bible. Lucifer and his willing human minions are what is being discussed. Miss that point and little of what happens today and the days to come make sense.

IRAQ Road to World Government

We need not buy into every detail of the suggested conspiracies. Maybe details are not being sold but legitimately questioned. What we should understand is there is a power behind these unexplainable horrors that is not "flesh and blood" to quote Paul the apostle.

So what do we do? For one we make sure our personal priorities are correct. The owner's manual (Bible) is a good place to determine those priorities. We are told that "He who is in us is greater than he who is in the world." Daniel knew this while in the lion's den. We need to remember this when we are in the lion's den with him, no matter how tough it appears.

Seeing the Perspective

I have linked 2 Megiddo videos below. Many Christians have no clear concept of what is happening on the world stage. A clearer understanding provides benefits. Confusion is uncomfortable and scary. Knowing the truth sets us free the Bible says. Also the day of the great deception is upon us with ever increasing intensity. Why let yourself be sucked into the lie? Don't kid yourself buy saying you would never believe this stuff. It is becoming more difficult each day to hold to the truth. There will be a time when the "rational" of your position as a Christian becomes overwhelmingly absurd and the "rational" of the others becomes overwhelmingly seductive. The underpinnings of the lie have not and will not change. But the public face changes, the proofs change, the events change to fit the time. It has all been practice until now.

We have seen, heard and are aware of parts, but seeing a larger picture is helpful.

So please watch all of the Megiddo videos.

Matthew 24
Signs of the End of the Age

4 Jesus answered: "Watch out that no one deceives you. 5For many will come in my name, claiming, 'I am the Christ,[a]' and will deceive many. 6You will hear of wars and rumors of wars, but see to it that you are not alarmed. Such things must happen, but the end is still to come. 7Nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. There will be famines and earthquakes in various places. 8All these are the beginning of birth pains.

26 "So if anyone tells you, 'There he is, out in the desert,' do not go out; or, 'Here he is, in the inner rooms,' do not believe it. 27For as lightning that comes from the east is visible even in the west, so will be the coming of the Son of Man. 28Wherever there is a carcass, there the vultures will gather.

How Do Conservatives Think?

Sorry can't give credit, don't know the source.

Father/Daughter Talk:

A young woman was about to finish her first year of college ... Like so many others her age, she considered herself to be a very liberal Democrat, and among other liberal ideals, was very much in favor of higher taxes to support more government programs, in other words redistribution of wealth.

She was deeply ashamed that her father was a rather staunch Republican,a feeling she openly expressed. Based on the lectures that she had participated in, and the occasional chat with a professor, she felt that her father had for years harbored an evil, selfish desire to keep what he thought should be his.

One day she was challenging her father on his opposition to higher taxes on the rich and the need for more government programs. The self-professed objectivity proclaimed by her professors had to be the truth and she indicated so to her father.

He responded by asking how she was doing in school. Taken aback, she answered rather haughtily that she had a 4.0 GPA, and let him know that it was tough to maintain, insisting that she was taking a very difficult course load and was constantly studying, which left her no time to go out and party like other people she knew. She didn't even have time for a boyfriend, and didn't really have many college friends because she spent all her time studying.

Her father listened and then asked, 'How is your friend Audrey doing?'

She replied, 'Audrey is barely getting by. All she takes are easy classes, she never studies, and she barely has a 2.0 GPA. She is so popular on campus; college for her is a blast. She's always invited to all the parties and lots of times she doesn't even show up for classes because she's too hung over.'

Her wise father asked his daughter, 'Why don't you go to the Dean's office and ask him to deduct 1.0 off your GPA and give it to your friend who only has a 2.0. That way you will both have a 3.0 GPA and certainly that would be a fair and equal distribution of GPA.'

The daughter, visibly shocked by her father's suggestion, angrily fired back, 'That's a crazy idea, and how would that be fair! I've worked really hard for my grades! I've invested a lot of time, and a lot of hard work! Audrey has done next to nothing toward her degree. She played while I worked my tail off!'

The father slowly smiled, winked and said gently, 'Welcome to the Republican party'.

THIS explains politics in simple terms that even a Democrat can understand.

Ayers Is No Education 'Reformer' - WSJ.com

Ayers Is No Education 'Reformer' - WSJ.com: "[Commentary] David G. Klein"

Article Here
Christians do not put their trust in Government (or at least should not), they put their trust in God. They trust in God leading and directing them individually and personally. Maybe this is why many Christians have such an aversion to socialism and big government.

Can Christians live and thrive under socialism or even totalitarian communism? Sure. Our true citizenship is in the Kingdom of God (righteousness, peace and joy - to list a few. But when we have a choice, we prefer the kind of government that stays out of the way and allows us to follow God as He directs - individually.

When Christians support such socialist, nanny state type movements I always wonder where their trust is placed.

When Christians fear and panic at the prospect of oppressive government I likewise wonder where or upon whom are they placing their trust.

But seeing we seem to have a choice, being informed before making that choice is advisable.

Sophisticated Theology

Maybe we spend too much time trying to figure it all out and be perfect ... theologically.

Friday, July 25, 2008

The 100 Year Prophesy

The 100 Year Prophesy: "In 1910 William Seymour prophesied that in 100 years there would be an outpouring of God's Spirit and His Shekinah Glory that will be greater and more far reaching than what was experienced at Azusa. 2010 is the year prophesied about and we are about 1000 days away."

BHT wonders if this prophecy's fulfillment is somewhat overdue or have we simply not accepted that the prophesy has and is being fulfilled? This Azusa street prophesy by Charles Parham (there is some disagreement as to the prophet) occurred sometime in 1906. So 2006 would be the presumptive date. The Toronto Blessing started in 1994, the Brownsville/Pensacola Outpouring in 1995 and now the Lakeland Outpouring in 2008. We are all good at missing and misinterpreting things of God, people's attitude toward Jesus when he walked the earth comes to mind.

Maybe we should take a closer look at these "outpourings" (even if someone does bark like a dog or laughs hysterically now and then). I must say I am more drawn to the revivals of old where strangers came from miles around and repented and accepted Jesus. I ran across this reminder of Charles Spurgeon:
A woman accepted Christ as her savior and Lord from reading a single sermon page of Charles Spurgeon’s that was wrapped around her butter. Another person working high in the rafters of the church accepted Christ as Spurgeon was testing the acoustics with a single gospel sentence.
Gimme that ole time religion!

But if these "outpourings" are of God, I don't want to be a critic! On the other hand there are sufficient supernatural occurrences from the other side in our world to encourage heightened diligence and discernment. Then there is that whole end times deception of the elect thing. Being on our spiritual toes is good. The Florida people are not doing this in the dark or in secret. It is being blasted all over the world by internet. See and hear for yourself and decide if God is on the move.

If you need material from the skeptics a Google search will overwhelm you. Here is an example. The decision may not be easy. There is mention by the "skeptics" of a Bently stated association with the teachings of William Branham. Many "prophets" and "apostles" today claim adherence to the William Branham teachings. We must decide if those teachings are correct.

There is a passage of scripture that bewilders me.
Matthew 7:22-23 (New International Version)
New International Version (NIV)

22Many will say to me on that day, 'Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name, and in your name drive out demons and perform many miracles?' 23Then I will tell them plainly, 'I never knew you. Away from me, you evildoers!'
Who are these people? How could they have thought they were following Jesus and been so wrong?

So while we are making up our mind, the old fashioned personal walk with God, ie trusting, studying, praying, forgiving, helping ... that kind of walk ... never goes out of style (with God at least).

ISTANBUL, July 9 (Compass Direct News) – Iranian authorities have detained two converts to Christianity in the southern city of Shiraz for eight weeks on suspicion of “apostasy,” or leaving Islam. In Iran, apostasy is a crime that can be punishable by death.

Mahmood Matin, 52, and Arash Bandari, 44, remain imprisoned in a secret police detention center known by its address, Sepah Street 100, located in the center of Shiraz since their arrest on May 15 (previously reported as May 13).

A draft penal code under discussion in Iran’s parliament this month may make the death penalty obligatory for those who leave Islam or use the Internet to encourage others to do so."
BHT was crusing the Baltic and met many fine people among the 3000+ travelers on board. It seems all have political opinions and are not afraid to express them. I usually travel in Christian circles so hearing Jews, Hindus and Atheists express their attitudes toward Islam was interesting. All these people come from "tolerant" positions and teachings. They superimpose this tolerance on Islam, feeling that man is basically good and therefore tolerant inherently. Christians contrarily believe man is fallen and needs redemption and is anything but tolerant in persuasion. Well, Jews sort of believe this as well but finding a practicing Jew is difficult. The ones I meet fall more into the Agnostic realm.

I ran into one opinionated and arogant Brit who pontificated ad nausium on his familiarity of the Koran and how peaceful (and I suppose tolerant) was Islam. So I decided to do a little Koran reading upon my return. Section 9 of the Koran is very revealing but I am not done with the entire entire book. And when we view issues like the ones in the above post, hardly rare, thier actions are lining up with their words.

I wonder if the average Muslim reads his own book? Or are they like average Christians and know very little of the actual text of their most sacred writings. It could be an eye opener for both parties.

Future Tripping and the Presence of Joy (Peace)

Future Tripping and the Presence of Joy (Peace): "Future Tripping and the Presence of Joy (Peace)"

The Shack author's blog has a great little article on peace and joy in the face of future planning. Very well written. We have talked about the mystery of being close to God in times of distress, times when we feel out of control, when things are not going the way we planned. I've been in times of distress and been far away from God also. So distress, disaster, discomfort only reveals the path to God. Arriving close to God is not automatic. We still have to walk the path of acceptance. Maybe that beautiful path God built to Himself is more distinctly visible when all the roads we have built are seen in their true light, full of pot holes and cracks and leading nowhere.

It always irritated me when people tagged "Lord willing" onto future statements. I've started adding it myself. Not to sound pious but "Lord willing" feels more descriptive of reality. "I will do this thing tomorrow ... Lord willing." It all sounds terribly weak in our culture of achievement, un-American almost.

Many of us Christians identify with Abraham, Moses, Paul ... not as much with their faith in God but in the great things these great men achieved. Then we live our lives in frustration in our own paultry achievements. Lately I identify more with the demoniac of Gadara:

"As Jesus was getting into the boat, the man who had been demon-possessed begged to go with him. Jesus did not let him, but said, "Go home to your family and tell them how much the Lord has done for you, and how he has had mercy on you."

We don't all defeat the Kings of Sodom, part the Red Sea or evangelize the world. Some of us just stay home and tell the story to the locals.

Sun-like Stars May Have Low Probability of Forming Planets

Sun-like Stars May Have Low Probability of Forming Planets
Written by Nancy Atkinson

The Orion Nebula shines brilliantly, as it is packed with over 1,000 young stars in a region just a few light-years wide. With all those stars, there's probably the potential for thousands of planets to one day form from the dust and gas surrounding these stars, right? Actually, according to a new study, fewer than 10 percent of stars in the Orion Nebula have enough surrounding dust to make a planet the size of Jupiter. And that doesn't bode well for the planet-forming abilities of most stars, at least in forming planets the size of Jupiter or larger. 'We think that most stars in the galaxy are formed in dense, Orion-like regions, so this implies that systems like ours may be the exception rather than the rule,' said Joshua Eisner lead author of the study from the University of California Berkeley. This finding is also consistent with the results of current planet searches, which are finding that only about 6 percent of stars surveyed have planets the size of Jupiter or larger."
BHT doesn't mean to be on a kick of some kind but we see a trend developing.

BHT has not read this but it appears a couple of scientists with no religious act to grind have some skepticism about life spreading randomly across the universe. So "billions and billions" of stars may not be as determinant in panspermia as Carl Sagan would suggest. Either way we are cool with it, theologically speaking.

Council of Europe Parliamentary Assembly

Doc. 11297

The dangers of creationism in education

Council of Europe Parliamentary Assembly: "Draft resolution"

1. "The Parliamentary Assembly is worried about the possible ill-effects of the spread of creationist theories within our education systems and about the consequences for our democracies. If we are not careful, creationism could become a threat to human rights, which are a key concern of the Council of Europe."

BHT finds intresting that the EU sees creationism as a grave threat to the state. Reading this resolution is just plain creepy. We suggest you read the entire resolution for full effect.

Brushing up on Dominionism is healthy for today's Christians.
Tom Horn interview on PID Radio
http://rnnradio.com/2006/10/14-1 Horn starts about half way through.
http://rnnradio.com/2006/10/14-2 Fast forward some to get to interview.

Many Christians are hearing God giving clarity on how His children should approach political attitudes. More of us are seeing (again) the futility of taking over the political (world) system. So I guess when Jesus said His kingdom is not of this world He really meant it.

We in the USA fall easy prey to a Dominionism theology because of our history. Didn't God lead the pilgrims to our shores to escape the oppressive state churches of Europe? Didn't God have a glorious plan to set up the perfect society, one lead by God Himself in the new land? At least some pilgrims believed this. Many Christians even now feel that God may have personally led our revolution (slight overstatement).

Just saying this out loud creeps me out. What Biblical reference supports this type of thinking? What scriptural pattern models this behavior?

The Finger of God

Darren’s Blog: "Darren’s Blog
Welcome! I will try my best to keep you up to date on what is happening with the film here, as well as give you insights into what I am working on next. Feel free to contact me with questions or comments, and I’ll try to get back to you as soon as I can."

BHT has "discovered" some new info on Miracles, God style. This is very exciting of course because if Jesus is returning in, well, September (for lack of anything more specific), one would expect that some unusual things would be going on. Here is a guy going around filming these unusual things, miracles perhaps. And if things go beyond September (perchance) life may become even more thrilling.

BHT while visiting China many years ago had the privilege of meeting Dennis Balcombe (mentioned in interview). Gratuitous name drop. It was a Bible transfer kind of thing, if you know what I mean.

You've Been Left Behind:
You've Been Left Behind gives you one last opportunity to reach your lost family and friends For Christ. Imagine being in the presence of the Lord and hearing all of heaven rejoice over the salvation of your loved ones. It is our prayer that this site makes it happen."
BHT finds this really stupid, ridiculous, and fairly hilarious. Spending $40 per year so you can contact whom? If they don't know you are gone ... some things I just can't get behind.

Jesus Made Me Puke : Rolling Stone

Jesus Made Me Puke : Rolling Stone: "Jesus Made Me Puke
Matt Taibbi Undercover with the Christian Right

Posted May 01, 2008 12:00 AM

"By the end of the weekend I realized how quaint was the mere suggestion that Christians of this type should learn to "be rational" or "set aside your religion" about such things as the Iraq War or other policy matters. Once you've made a journey like this — once you've gone this far — you are beyond suggestible. It's not merely the informational indoctrination, the constant belittling of homosexuals and atheists and Muslims and pacifists, etc., that's the issue. It's that once you've gotten to this place, you've left behind the mental process that a person would need to form an independent opinion about such things. You make this journey precisely to experience the ecstasy of beating to the same big gristly heart with a roomful of like-minded folks. Once you reach that place with them, you're thinking with muscles, not neurons."
BHT is not supposing Rolling Stone Mag is a good source of Christian information. But it may be a good place to see how the world views Christians. Not that any of the world's views are surprising or unknown ... it's just interesting to see them explained by the people who hold those views.

The article is quite harmless so don't be afraid to read it. When I read these blurbs about some horrendous (in the author's eyes) meeting, I always think, "Wow, that must have been a great meeting, sorry I missed it." Must just be my muscles thinking.

And The Moon Into Blood

Matthew 24:29 (King James Version)

29Immediately after the tribulation of those days shall the sun be darkened, and the moon shall not give her light, and the stars shall fall from heaven, and the powers of the heavens shall be shaken:

Acts 2:20 (King James Version)

20The sun shall be turned into darkness, and the moon into blood, before the great and notable day of the Lord come:

Thanks to my illustrious daughter for finding this!
BHT finds this the most provocative approach we have come across for End Time date setting. Of course there is the obligatory "I'm not setting dates" proclamation but date setting it is. No harm done. No cave hiding, property selling, generator buying or Kool-Aid drinking. Lot's of compelling research (well some at least).

I'm always a sucker for allowing an understanding of Jewish (Hebrew) traditions to influence Biblical interpretation. There were just so many Jews involved in early Christianity ... you know, Jesus, Peter, Paul ... when you think about it, most of them were Jews. And try as we might, Westerners simply don't quite grasp a lot of it. So when a Hebrew (Christian or not) tells me the moon turning to blood is a common expression for lunar eclipse (rough understanding), my eyes pop open. I didn't know that. You mean Jesus may not have been predicting some nuclear haze coloring the moon? We do try hard to complicate things, common when we lack understand.

We are warned about not watching. This is watching of the first order.

Thomas R. Horn -- Is the Vatican easing humanity toward alien disclosure?

By Thomas R. Horn
May 24, 2008
Vatican chief astronomer Father Jose Gabriel Funes in a long interview with the L'Osservatore Romano newspaper this week made news by saying there is a certain possibility of intelligent life elsewhere in the universe, and that such notion 'doesn't contradict our faith.'

'How can we rule out that life may have developed elsewhere? Just as we consider earthly creatures as 'a brother,' and 'sister,' why should we not talk about an 'extraterrestrial brother'? It would still be part of creation,' he said."

BHT is busy trying to learn Spanish ... what next. I guess we will just have to wait and see what our "ET brothers" are speaking.

Oh and by the way, when (OK if) that big round disk lands on the White House lawn ... Catholics will now have no problem with it.

Are we being groomed for THE (BIG HUGE) LIE?

2 Thessalonians 2:11-12 (Today's New International Version)
11 For this reason God sends them a powerful delusion so that they will believe the lie
12 and so that all will be condemned who have not believed the truth but have delighted in wickedness.

The lie comes in different flavors depending on who you listen to, but this is my favorite. One must admit it is at least a mildly interesting end time senario.

McCain Backer Hagee Said Hitler Was Fulfilling God's Will (AUDIO) - Politics on The Huffington Post

McCain Backer Hagee Said Hitler Was Fulfilling God's Will (AUDIO) - Politics on The Huffington Post: "John Hagee, the controversial evangelical leader and endorser of Sen. John McCain, argued in a late 1990s sermon that the Nazis had operated on God's behalf to chase the Jews from Europe and shepherd them to Palestine."

BHT thinks getting political endorsements from outspoken, Bible believing Christians is a dicey proposition. Some of the messages and explanations in the Bible are normally not welcome to the "world" or those outside the faith. This should come as no surprise. Jesus said if they hated me, they will hate you.

Do I belive that Hitler was used by God to encourage the Jews to move back to the homeland? It does seem to fit the passages mentioned by Mr. Hagee. Our problem is in justifying God's actions, if true, to the loving God from Sunday School. This may be humorous to God, we lowly, ignorant, short sighted, weak beings feeling a need to evaluate God's actions and/or motives. But it may have something to do with what God knows will happen and how He has incorporated those foreseen events into His master plan. Some get so confused on the issue as to retreat into hypothesizing that God doesn't know everything ... this entire discussion gets more complex and slippery as we try to nail it down. All attempts to completely understand it are probably futile.

But something is changing. Christians began to believe (USA Christians) that infiltration into government and places of power was God's will and a sure fire way to transform (some say retain) the USA as a Christian nation. That strategy has produced little fruit and seems doomed (even cursed). Increasing numbers of pastors are speaking against the emphasis on political solutions (we should still vote I presume) and are urging a return to ... something else.

Perhaps Christians need to abandon the political approach to the Gospel and return to the position of being "in the world but not of the world." Maybe we should be less concerned with our worldly kingdoms and more concerned about the kingdom of heaven. If I read my Bible correctly, things are going to get rougher and tougher toward the end. Is that where we are, toward the end?

Who knows, maybe God is creating (or is that foresaw) a clear separation coming between us New Testament Jews and the world. Maybe we will be driven by some new Hitler to return to our true homeland ... The Kingdom of Heaven.

Kings and/or Priests

The image “http://endtimepilgrim.org/dominion.jpg” cannot be displayed, because it contains errors.
Some of the most exciting proclamations in the Bible are controversial among believers. Revelation 5:10 is a good example.

Here are the basic differences in translations of this passage. (LINK)

New American Standard Bible (©1995)
"You have made them to be a kingdom and priests to our God; and they will reign upon the earth."

King James Bible
And hast made us unto our God kings and priests: and we shall reign on the earth.

Now I'm no theologian and this is no exegesis but some views, despite sounding good, don't follow Biblical patterns and themes.

There are people who subject themselves to the leading and discipline of God. People who like Job have found who is really in charge. People like you and me. They agree with the "kingdom of priests" translation.

Then there are people who think God wants us to control, take over, dominate earth. You know, Adam lost it and we are taking it back. On the extreme end of this thinking are the Dominionists. We as Christians should take over the government, business, etc. The most extreme believe Jesus will only return once we take over. Others are only "helping" His return along. I suspect some think our taking over is the return of Jesus (Jesus is within us kind of thinking). Whether they even believe in a physical return of Jesus is unclear. These people like to read "kings and priests." The king part fits their dominion theology. So unlike Joseph, who influenced government and Pharaoh, they want to be Pharaoh. Unlike Daniel, who influenced government and Nebuchadnezzar, they want to be Nebuchadnezzar.

Most Christians drift back and forth between these two positions (or hang around the middle) depending on their situation or who they are listening to.

So I was just thinking that I am no longer fuzzy about my position. I'm no king. There is but one king ... The Christ of the Ancient of Days. I may be a priest, created to fellowship with and worship the King, but I'm no king.

I know what you are thinking ... it says we are reigning. But we reign as priests, not kings.

This may be a BigHugeThing.

The Odds of Intelligent Life in the Universe | Universe Today

The Odds of Intelligent Life in the Universe | Universe Today: "The Odds of Intelligent Life in the Universe"

Written by Nancy Atkinson

"When it comes to contemplating the state of our universe, the question that’s probably most prevalent on people’s minds is, “Is anyone else like us out there?” The famous Drake Equation, even when worked out with fairly moderate numbers, seemingly suggests the probable amount of intelligent, communicating civilizations could be quite numerous. But a new paper published by a scientist from the University of East Anglia suggests the odds of finding new life on other Earth-like planets are low, given the time it has taken for beings such as humans to evolve combined with the remaining life span of Earth."

BHT finds it interesting when proponents of an old universe (by man's clock) believe finding intelligent life in space is unlikely.

Republican (Grass Roots)

Father/Daughter Talk - A True Revelation

A young woman was about to finish her first year of college. Like so many others her age, she considered herself to be a very liberal Democrat, and was very much in favor of 'the redistribution of wealth.'

She was deeply ashamed that her father was a rather staunch Republican, a feeling she openly expressed. Based on the lectures that she had participated in, and the occasional chat with a professor, she felt that her father had for years harbored an evil, selfish desire to keep what he thought should be his.

One day she was challenging her father on his opposition to higher taxes on the rich and the addition of more government welfare programs. The objectivity proclaimed by her professors had to be the truth and she indicated so to her father. He responded by asking how she was doing in school.

Taken aback, she answered rather haughtily that she had a 4.0 GPA, and let him know that it was not easy to maintain. She said she was taking a very difficult course load and was constantly studying, which left her no time to go out and party like others she knew. She didn't even have time for a boyfriend, and didn't have many friends because she most of her time studying!

Her father listened and then asked, 'How is your friend Audrey doing?'

She replied, 'Audrey is barely getting by. All she takes are easy classes, she never studies, and she barely has a 2.0 GPA. She's popular on campus and college is a blast for her. She's invited to all the parties, and sometimes she doesn't even show up for classes because she's hung over.'

Her wise father asked his daughter, 'Why don't you go to the Dean's office and ask him to deduct a 1.0 off your GPA and give it to your friend who only has a 2.0. That way you will both have a 3.0 GPA and certainly that would be a fair and equal distribution of GPA.'

The daughter, visibly shocked by her father's suggestion, angrily fired back, 'That wouldn't be fair! I have worked really hard for my grades! I've put in a lot of time, and a lot of hard work! Audrey has done next to nothing toward her degree. She played while I worked my tail off!'

The father smiled, winked and said gently, 'Welcome to the real world. And, by the way, I'm glad those professors are teaching you to think logically instead of just reacting emotionally?'

BigHugeThing likes this take on things ... even though BHT is trying to be less political.

The Shack

Generally The Shack is a worthwhile read. The love of God, the complexity of God and God's ability to turn seemingly bad situations into good ones comes through clearly. Any book that can make me cry impresses me and The Shack made me cry more than once. Not tears of sadness but tears of joy in a loving, compassionate and intensely personal God.

But one must not confuse The Shack with the Bible. The Shack reveals the complexity of God and the impossibility of humans understanding these complexities. Yet Shack love includes no punishment initiated by God. The Bible however is clear about God punishing His enemies (or who is He who come with red stained robes from Bozrah in the future, is that blood or just another pretty coat? and remember that angel who slew some 185,000 before breakfast in the past). God is unfathomably patient and forgiving to be sure but The Shack has a mushy universal feel to it. As much as we may like to have all saved (excluding Hitler of course) there is no such theme in the Bible. Some make it and some don't and one must submit the Bible to considerable torture (does it say that in the original Greek?) to make it say something else.

To simplify this complex and unsearchable God, The Shack gives us Jesus: God in human form. This is a Biblically consistent concept. And to show the forgiveness of God we see Jesus even forgiving those who crucified Him. But he also warned those who would mislead "these little ones" it would be better for them to have a mill stone around their neck and cast into the sea. Jesus warned: fear not them which kill the body, but are not able to kill the soul: but rather fear him which is able to destroy both soul and body in hell. God can evidently be a scary guy when opposed.

To be fair though, many only see God as a big mean killjoy in the sky. We benefit from trying to understand all or as much of God as humanly possible and not omit that which we don't like or makes us uncomfortable. The Shack is a good look at God in ways we may not always see Him. If The Shack is our only source of information on God, then our view of God would be incomplete. But do we really need to be so protective that we ban books and forbid exposure to ideas? The Catholics already went down that dead end road. A heart seeking after God (the Bible God) will find Him. God is sufficiently capable to assure this and He said as much. If you are looking for another God (not in the Bible) you will find that one too.
